In the first part of the book it’s very much about the fact that Stanley never is lucky which you can really understand when he tells you about the curse and how he got arrested and brought to Camp Green Lake.
In the book we learn that Stanley got arrested for having a shoe that wasn't very cheap in his hands while he was running. He later got to a court where the judge said that his punishment was going to be that he under a longer time was going to working at Camp Green Lake.
When he then finally gets there he realize that the place isn’t very green and had no lake. After a while he meets Mr. Sir and over and over again is being told that it’s not going to be easy at the camp. Then it’s time to get his clothes which is an orange jumpsuit that looks very much like he’s in prison. He also finds out that common dangerous animal lives in the holes and sometimes ( if you're not lucky ) the can bit you so you get extremely sick and even can die. These animals are called yellow lizards.
A few moments later he meets the group that is going to be sleeping with and working with. After one day he realizes that it’s going to be much tougher than he thought and much harder to get into his new life.
